Remembering Whitney Houston:
Born in Newark, New Jersey Whitney Houston was one of the greatest singers in the music industry, her voice was one of a kind and she made music that touched the souls of millions around the world. Her first album debut in 1985 and included the hit song 'Greatest Love of All'.

She was a six-time Grammy winner with a total of twenty six nominations. Her record sales in the United States alone totaled 55 million with over 170 million albums sold worldwide. Her music accreditation included winning 22 American Music Awards out of 38 nominations. Whitney was also the first female artist to debut an album at number one on the Billboard 200 albums chart and the only artist to chart seven consecutive Number One Billboard Hot 100 hits.

Whitney's marriage to then singer Bobby Brown can be compared to today's music heavyweight couple Jay-Z and Beyonce. During her marriage she had one daughter whom they named Bobby-Christina. She went on to film the movie "The Body Guard" with actor Kevin Costner which produced her iconic song "I will Always Love You".

In recent years Whitney's career took a pitfall as she suffered from drug addiction and problems with her voice making her unable to belt out the iconic high notes she was known for. Recently however she was getting back on track, as she sought help for her addiction, and had a starring role alongside Jordin Sparks in the upcoming film 'Sparkle'. News of her passing broke just hours before she was scheduled to attend and possibly perform at music mogul Clive Davis's Pre-Grammy party tonight.
